The filling in the mattress is mainly made of recycled cotton and tested according to TÜV, which means that quality and environmental standards are met. To arrive at recycled cotton, cotton from worn clothing or cutting waste is used. The big advantage of recycled cotton is that the impact on the environment is many times smaller than with organic or regular cotton without losing the comfort properties.

Our Karup Design futons are inspired by centuries-old Japanese tradition and are carefully constructed layer by layer 100% recycled cotton.

Using advanced machines, cotton from the textile industry is quickly and efficiently recycled into sturdy cotton mats. These mats are then stacked on top of each other and pressed into a cover. A robot then takes care of beautifully tufting the futons, so that you can enjoy ultimate comfort and durability.

Our Karup futon mattress double LATEX black 80×200 cm is an 18 cm thick cotton futon mattress with a natural latex foam core. Our futons have a higher density and thickness than traditional Japanese futon mattresses, yet still offer all the good qualities of a traditional futon. The latex futon provides medium/soft support. The cotton in the futon adapts to your body and supports it where needed, while the latex core gives the mattress its extra resilience.

The Karup Futon Mattress Latex is filled with 8 layers of recycled cotton, with a core of 8 cm thick perforated latex for maximum flexibility and comfort. The latex conforms to the sleeping position, so that this futon offers soft support. The futon has a felt padding and is covered with a 100% cotton cover. Thanks to the multiple layers of recycled cotton, covered with a 100% cotton cover, this futon offers very good ventilation. Recycled Cotton is endorsed by various studies as the most sustainable shape of cotton due to the fact that the high environmental impact caused by regular cotton cultivation does not apply.

Futon mattress benefits

A futon gives little back pressure and, thanks to the compact cotton filling, forms to the contours of your body. It provides support over the entire length of your body. This is why FUTONS are especially recommended for people with back problems or who are overweight.
Due to the natural and airy filling, it offers excellent ventilation. This way you will sleep comfortably even on warm nights.
Thanks to the firm structure and the mattress is easy to turn, the FUTON can ventilate well during the day, which means that it is better ventilated and retains its fresh, natural scent.

Use futon mattress

Futon mattress maintenance

A natural property of cotton is its ability to be compressed (a margin of 0,5 mm to 1 cm). To restore the original shape of the futon, it is best to roll and fold it in all directions at least 3 times a month. This distributes the wool evenly across the entire mattress and prevents the filling from becoming uneven or sagging. In addition to rolling and folding, it is important to treat the edges of the mattress regularly. To do this, kneel around the entire edge of the futon while simultaneously tapping the filling inwards from the outside with your fists. By tapping firmly on the edges, you push the wool that has shifted to the sides back towards the center of the mattress. This prevents the edges from becoming thinner while the center remains too thick, and helps the futon maintain its even shape.
