The Karup Retreat futon bed carob 140×200 cm is the Retreat in carob brown: a dark brown shade in which the grain of the pine remains visible. The bed is 146 cm wide, 226 cm long, and 93 cm high at the headboard. The 61 cm headboard features open shelves 20 cm deep, each with a cable pass-through, so that your lamp and your phone have a place on the bed itself.
The dark color gives the Retreat a different character than the white version: less light and airy, more warmth and contrast against a light wall or white bedding. The rounded corners of the frame and headboard remain, as does the design of placing the bed with the headboard against the wall. The design is by Says Who, the Danish agency that has designed more beds for Karup.
What you buy
The frame is made of solid pine, lacquered carob brown, with an FSC Mix certificate. The wooden slatted base and assembly instructions are included. The 140×200 cm mattress is sold separately, either as a Karup futon from the selection list or as your own mattress. The same bed in clear lacquered pine is called Retreat Natural.

Choose a futon
When ordering, choose a Karup futon, or take the bed without a futon if you already have a mattress. Every Karup futon is constructed from layers of cotton around a core:
- Traditional: coreless cotton, approximately 13 cm
- Comfort: cotton with a 4 cm foam core, approximately 15 cm
- Coconut: cotton with a 3 cm coconut board core, approximately 16 cm
- Sandwich: cotton with a core of 4 cm latex foam and 3 cm coconut board, approximately 16 cm
- Double latex: cotton with an 8 cm latex foam core, approximately 18 cm
- Triple latex: cotton and wool with a core of 6 cm latex foam and 2 cm horsehair, approximately 20 cm
You can read what each filling does in our futon mattresses.
Organic futon
Karup uses recycled cotton for its futons: eco-friendly, but not organically certified. If you are looking for a mattress that is produced entirely organically, without chemicals and pesticides, with certificates and labels, and a more luxurious finish, order the bed without a futon and choose the organic futon mattress Traditional 140×200 cm.
Delivery is free. In our showroom in Bergen op Zoom, with the largest Karup Design collection in the Benelux, you see carob next to light pine.
