The Karup Japan Terra futon bed 140×200 cm is the smallest size of the Japan in the color Terra: 168 cm wide, 228 cm long, and 20 cm high. A double bed for a smaller bedroom or a spacious bed for one person, in a warm earth tone that gives a small room character without making it feel cluttered, precisely because the bed is so low.
In a compact space, one color accent is enough. Place the Terra bed against a light wall, keep the rest of the textiles simple in white, sand, or gray, and let the floor and the bed do the work. A tatami mat next to it as a runner is part of the ensemble.
What you buy
Karup Design makes the Japan from solid wood sourced from FSC-certified Scandinavian forests. The frame rests on eight short legs, and the solid wood slatted base is included as standard, as is the assembly manual. For a traditional bed base, place two 70×200 cm tatami mats made of rice straw with a top layer of rush grass inside the frame.

Choose a futon
When configuring, you choose a Karup futon, or you order the bed without a futon and use your own mattress. The futons are constructed from layers of cotton around a core:
- Traditional: coreless cotton, approximately 13 cm
- Comfort: cotton with a 4 cm foam core, approximately 15 cm
- Coconut: cotton with a 3 cm coconut board core, approximately 16 cm
- Sandwich: cotton with a core of 4 cm latex foam and 3 cm coconut board, approximately 16 cm
- Double latex: cotton with an 8 cm latex foam core, approximately 18 cm
- Triple latex: cotton and wool with a core of 6 cm latex foam and 2 cm horsehair, approximately 20 cm

Organic futon
The Karup futons are made of recycled cotton, eco-friendly but not organically certified.
